Through Space: Seamless Asset Streaming

Independently released mobile game, Eduardo Martinelli's first published title.

In short: A captivating space-themed casual mobile game and my first independently released title. Built by Eduardo Martinelli, a Unity systems & performance engineer in Vancouver, Canada.

Through Space is an independently released mobile game developed in Unity, designed for high performance across a wide spectrum of hardware. The project focuses on rigorous optimization and a modular architectural framework to ensure a seamless experience even on legacy devices.

Key technical achievements include:

  • Performance Optimization: Implemented asset streaming, asynchronous scene loading, and texture atlases to eliminate loading screens. Rendering optimizations were prioritized to maintain high frame rates across diverse mobile specifications.
  • Modular Game Architecture: Built on a component-based system that promotes code reusability and design coherence. This is complemented by a data-driven pattern, allowing for rapid iteration of game mechanics and content without structural changes.
  • Dynamic Audio & Systems: Integrated an evolving soundtrack that responds to player movements accross planets and an automatic save system for persistent data management.
  • Multi-platform Support: Low system requirements allow the game to run smoothly across multiple platforms, including WebGL (Itch.io), PC (standalone), and Android (Google Play).

The project demonstrates integration of technical innovation and game feel design, resulting in a highly performant and immersive gameplay.
